Possibly incorrect format in LO extension (Chicago Full Note book chapter)

Hi,

Entering a reference to a chapter using the Zotero LibreOffice plugin (in "classic view") produces something like the following:

Fistname Lastname, Book Title, (Place: Publisher, Year), chap. Chapter Title.

This is incorrect according to Chicago style, which formats chapter and sections of books like so:

Firstname Lastname, "Chapter Title," in _Book Title_, (Place: Publisher, Year), 11-35.

As far as I know this has always been the extension's behaviour. My impression is that the recommended practice is to have entries for each chapter in your Zotero library (based on this discussion: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/400892), but then why does the extension give the option to reference a chapter of an entry? I'm assuming this is intentional (so I've marked this as possibly incorrect) but I haven't been able to discover why.

Thanks!
  • Chicago is the exception here, and their treatment of chapters in single-author books is rather odd in my opinion.
In most other styles you'd cite the whole book and then reference a chapter as a locator, just like you'd reference a column or a page range -- that's the case e.g. for APA style, where your in-text citation would be (Lastname, Date, chapt. 7), so that's what the functionality in the word processor add-on is ofr.

If you do want Chicago style chapter citations, use book section as recommended in the linked thread. Since you need both the chapter title and a page range, this just wouldn't be feasible with the types of information in the word processor add-on.
