Zotero is working in Word but not Google docs

I have downloaded Zotero onto Google docs onto Chrome and Word. Google docs shows Zotero on the screen but when you click on it to cite a reference, it says that it is updating and to wait. However, after 15 minutes, it is still not updated. How do I get Zotero to work on Google docs? It is citing while I am writing fine on Word.

    This has been happening lately for some people due to a bug in Docs and/or Chrome. We're still trying to reliably reproduce it so we can report it upstream, but it seems to go away for people when using Firefox instead of Chrome.

    (You may also be able to just close the tab, reopen Google Docs, and try again.)

    I even restarted the computer, disabled all extensions, tried with two different Chrome profiles, and it still doesn't work. I'm not too happy about the prospect of having to install a different browser.
