MS Word Plugin no communication anymore with new version

I'm having trouble with the newest Zotero MS Word plugin. I'm using Word 2007 and Firefox 3.5.3 on Windows 7. I have been using the beta 2.0b6 and everything worked smoothly. This morning I updated Zotero to 2.0b7.1 and updated the Word processor plugin. Then I restarted both Firefox and Word.

The MS Word plugin still loads normally and the buttons appear, but as soon as I click a button nothing happens. Maybe it has to do with the "Plugin dialogs are now full windows on Windows" as stated in the changelog? I tried reinstalling the Word plugin but that didn't help. Is it possible to get an old version of the Word plugin?

Just to be sure, you installed the .xpi version from here?
  • Yes I installed it from the above url, and the version running is 3.0a1.

Is it possible to get and use an old version of the Word plugin?

After clicking the "Zotero insert citation" button or the "set doc prefs" button, my Word window loses focus, but nothing else happens. I tried reinstalling the components and Zotero, created new document, but the problem remains. I also tried the 3.0a1.r5161 Word integration with the same result.

Is someone else using Windows 7, Firefox 3.5.3, Zotero 2.0b7.1 and the MS Word plugin (Zotero WinWord integration add-on) 3.0a1 on Word 2007?

We have a test system running your exact configuration, and it works great. Would you mind opening both Firefox and Word, and then pasting the following in the search box of the start menu:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -ZoteroIntegrationAgent WinWord -ZoteroIntegrationCommand addCitation -silent

    or, on a 64-bit Win 7 install:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -ZoteroIntegrationAgent WinWord -ZoteroIntegrationCommand addCitation -silent

    Ah thank you so much!

I tried running the command and everything worked. Then I found out that I used the "-no-remote" switch to start Firefox, because I'm running multiple profiles (sometimes at the same moment). This used to work with the previous Word plugin, but was causing the problem with the new version. Now everything works great again! :D

Unfortunately I now can't run two Firefox instances with different profiles simultaneously anymore.
  • You can run the instance you want to use with Word without -no-remote, and the other instance with -no-remote.
