All styles deleted

I have encountered the following problem: After working perfectly fine for years, I could suddenly not insert any citation anymore: Trying to add a citation in word results in the error message that the citation style xy could not be found. Checking the styles manager it is completely empty, all styles have been deleted. Clicking "add styles" in Zotero does not result in anything except for a short freeze of the program itself. Trying to install files from the website gives another error message that Zotero cannot be reached and must be opened, although it is (obviously) running. Resetting the styles changes nothing and checking database integrity does nothing either. Checking my folders, there was no "styles folder" under Zotero.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? I have no idea how to fix this and I'm getting close to a deadline.

Thanks in advance!!
  • Can you provide a Report ID to start?
Checking my folders, there was no "styles folder" under Zotero.
Where exactly did you check? You'd want to look in the Zotero data directory. If there's no 'styles' folder there, something on your system — e.g., security software — is preventing Zotero from creating it. But we may be able to tell more from the Report ID.
  • Hi @dstillman thanks for your reply! The report ID is 590534686.

Checking the data directory there is now a styles folder which contains one single csl style (Chicago Author-date). This is also the style I have used so far. However, I still cannot use Zotero with the same error messages popping up.
  • [JavaScript Error: "Component returned failure code: 0x8052000a (NS_ERROR_FILE_DISK_FULL) [nsIZipReader.extract]" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/schema.js" line: 1275}]
It looks like your disk is full.
  • Having cleared out a lot this appears not to be the core of the issue. Zotero continues with empty style repository and unable to install any styles manually.
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup after deleting the 'styles' folder, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

hope this helps! Thanks for your assistance!
  • It still says you're disk is full.
  • To be clear, this is your system disk. Not your Zotero library. Zotero isn't able to write to the disk because the system is saying that the local disk is full.
  • @dstillman my IT skills might be limited but I have a strong feeling that 40GB of free space should be sufficient to put something along the lines of “(Mearsheimer 2014)” into a word document. Might any of the other reported messages give a clue as to what the issue is?
  • The problem isn't putting something into a Word document but installing the styles, and the system is telling Zotero that the disk is full when it tries.
Are you sure you don't have multiple partitions and the one that includes the Zotero data folder is full? Otherwise, this could be security software, though the message is odd for that.
