Can't add new citation in Word: 463991017

I can't add a new citation, using word. It says it's because of a communication error.

    Can you provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that produces this error?

    @eliekaat: Oh, wait, this is about citing in Word? Don't try to interpret error reports yourself or post error output here — just say what the actual problem is and provide a Report ID, and we'll find the relevant details. I've edited the thread title to reflect the actual topic.

    We can debug the sync error as well, but for Word, try reinstalling the Word plugin from the Cite → Word Processors pane of the Zotero preferences, and then restart Word.

    For the syncing problem, empty your trash and it should go away.

    The problem is that I can't add a citation because of a communication error. And yes, I'm using Word.

    Go to your Word Startup folder and delete Zotero.dotm, restart Word, and confirm the Zotero plugin is completely gone. Then reinstall again from the prefs and restart Word and confirm that the plugin is back. Then try again. If you're still having trouble, provide another Report ID, and also tell us your full Word version.

    Tried it twice, still the same problem :(

    I deleted the zotero.dotm and did everything you said. Problem still occurs:
    1. In word I click on add/edit citation
    2. then the pop up says it cant communicate with word.

    My word version is: 16.39 (20071300)

    Oh, that's a super old version of Word, from July 2020. You need to update to a current version.

    O that's strange, it says it's the newest version.
    I'll try to fix it now

    I'm using 16.60 it says. I think my first version was 16.39
    Tried to update but I couldn't because all my microsoft apps are up-to-date.

    Still the same problem

    Did you try to restart your computer? Can you submit another Report ID after restart if you get the error while using Word 16.60?
