Zotero IOS to Zotero 6 Annotation Sync

Hello, I am having difficulty with the Zotero IOS to Zotero 6 desktop annotation sync.

Changes in the Notes, Tags and document metadata section (Publication, Volume, etc.) that I am implementing in the IOS app are all successfully showing up in the desktop platform after syncing. All of these functions are also mirrored when I implement them desktop Zotero 6, in addition to creating annotations.

That said, the annotations I create in the IOS Zotero app are registering with my desktop library when I sync on the desktop platform. I uninstalled and reinstalled Zotero on both platforms and checked my sync settings and this one function (IOS annotations to desktop sync) is still not communicating.

Any insight is appreciated,

    Did you mean "are not"?

And you're opening PDFs within Zotero on the desktop?

Can you select one of the attachments where you've only created annotations on iOS and they're not showing up in the Zotero PDF reader, do a right-click → Show File, and tell us the 8-character folder name?

    - yes, sorry for the confusion

  • OK, so online, that attachment has three annotations: an ink annotation, an image annotation, and an empty note annotation. Is that what you're expecting? If you don't see those in Zotero 6, can you 1) provide a Debug ID for a sync and 2) take a screenshot of the PDF reader with the annotations sidebar open, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive), and provide a link here (or via email to support@zotero.org)?
  • Ok, my confusion stemmed from the fact that I use the platform PDF Pen to view and edit materials from Zotero. As buggy as it was, Papership would directly implement annotations to the PDF files, which could then be visible in PDF Pen. I wasn't expecting that I would need to use the Zotero 6 viewer in order to see the annotations I create in IOS. This would be a benefit for future updates if possible.

That said, I am seeing the annotations through the Zotero 6 viewer so the situation is resolved. Thank you for your help.

See, the Knowledge Base isn't linked anywhere in the https://www.zotero.org/support/ios documentation and the linked resource is buried beneath a 100 or so items on the page. This element isn't evident in the IOS materials and its the only reason I pursued the service.

That wasn't a criticism of you. It's just a knowledge-base article — it's mainly something we link to when people ask questions here, so we don't have to repeat the same answers.

It's also not iOS-specific in any way, and the only iOS documentation is that intro page, so it certainly wouldn't be linked from there.
