Offline syncing for Zotero Client

Hello there community of Zotero, -in Reddit style- this is my first post and I just wanted to say that this piece of software is absolutely amazing and honestly the best, truly a magnificent piece of FOSS.

With that out of the way I wanted to ask about offline syncing (when I refer to offline syncing I mean syncing all of my libraries to my own custom home servers), I am very conscient about my digital footprint and what can track me, and syncing my library to Zotero cloud is kinda iffy for me. I mean I don't mind it that much but I am not a big fan of being reliant on "clouds" that I don't manage myself. So I wanted to ask if anyone has any tips/information/suggestions for syncing my library via WebDAV or other alternate methods, I took a look at the docs, but they say it's risky to do it via file syncing (so software like SyncThing).

If it's not possible then that's fine but I am asking in case maybe there's a plugin/add-on out there that can do this for me. At least I should periodically be able to sync my library (and maybe select libraries) via file syncing to my home servers and then allow others to make a copy when they wish to check out the library I have made.
  • If you want to actually sync Zotero yourself, you need to install and set up the Zotero server locally and configure the client to sync with it. That's possible and IIRC there are some repos with details out there (the code is all FLOSS), but there's no support. WebDAV works out if the box, but is only for attachments. Your data/metadata would still sync with Zotero.

In case that's not clear, it is possible to use Zotero entirely without sync (or even an account) without any loss of functionality other than sync
  • Thanks for the information. One question though, when talking about Attachments does that include things like PDF files and such? As that would be a great start
