Warning for style "Universität Bern - Institut für Musikwissenschaft (note, Deutsch)"

edited March 22, 2022
When I add the the style "Universität Bern - Institut für Musikwissenschaft (note, Deutsch)" style to Zotero (via the official styles menu), I get the message box that the style is not a valid CSL 1.0.1 style. I've seen this issue (https://github.com/zotero/zotero/issues/2341) and the linked discussion (https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/399020/#Comment_399020). I understand that the new terms aren't supported yet, but 1. I don't think the style uses any of those, and 2. the style comes from the official repo, so it should be valid, right? What am I missing here?

  • 1. It uses the updated sub-verbo term https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/5799

    2. The official repo is 1.0.2 compatible, as it says at the top of the repo page.
  • Ah ok, `sub-verbo` then. Thanks!
  • Hmmm, thinking about it more I still find it weird to receive that warning given I'm installing a style directly via Zotero. Wouldn't it be possible to disable style validation for styles installed this way (until the validator has been updated to validate against 1.0.2)? Invalid styles shouldn't make it to the repo anyway so that should do any harm, right?
  • I agree that the warnings are undesirable; not sure how far off the updated validator is. I assumed this was trivial -- for CSL's online validator it literally just meant pointing to a different csl.rnc -- but as is often the case, that seems like an incorrect assumption.
