Cannot Install Safari Connector on M1 MacOS Monterey 12.3

Hi everyone,
Despite following the instructions on this page ( https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/safari_compatibility ) I continue to attempt to install the Safari connector by opening Zotero preferences from the Zotero menu and then attempt to go to the Extensions pane. However, there is no extension pane. I downloaded Zotero 6.0 for the first time today, and I'm pretty sure I never downloaded the beta. To be clear, included in "following the instructions" is deleting Zotero, re-downloading Zotero 6.0, restarting the machine, then reinstalling Zotero. This has all been done three or four times with no success.

I also have a MacBook Pro that is not an M1. In an ideal work I would primarily use the MacBook Air, but if I'm working on the MBP and want to quick work on annotations or adding citations I can do that from the MBP and then continue working most of the time with the MacBook Air.

Over the years I've found that other browsers (Google Chrome) just kill the lifespan of MacBooks and I feel nearly allergic to the way Firefox looks. In addition both Chrome and Firefox don't work well with Keychain (MacOS password manager), so there's a huge amount of friction in using them regularly to move things into Safari. It feels like a potential security sinkhole to save passwords in yet another place, and also if I update them then that's captured in Keychain, not Chrome or Firefox. I have looked at other citation managers and keep being stunned at how little they offer for archival material that I head back to Zotero almost immediately.

I would be open to running the beta if that would get the connector working. Does anyone have thoughts?
