"Zotero undefined" error in Project MUSE translator?
This discussion is with respect to error report 163070625. I have been using the Zotero Connector extension for Firefox (currently version 97.0) on a 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro running MacOS 12.1 and trying to download all articles from a journal on Project MUSE. I obtain access through my university's library, so via a proxy which appears to be properly configured and saved in the Connector's preferences. (Please let me know if more detail is needed on any of these points.)
I use the toolbar shortcut to access the extension. It correctly displays an image of a folder and hovering shows "Project MUSE", so the right translator is selected. I click to Select All articles and click OK. On first logging in to the proxy, this downloads the article metadata and PDFs to Zotero as intended. However, after only two or three issues - sometimes only one and sometimes part way through downloading an issue - it runs into a problem. If it is part way through, the metadata for articles will usually (but not always) download, but only some of the PDFs will. Though I have also had cases where it will only recognize the presence of one article (strangely, typically the fourth) but will download both the metadata and PDF for that one article. But, after encountering this problem, whichever of the different ways it first manifests, I will be unable to download any further information until the proxy logs out and permits me to log back in again - the "Saving to" pop-up will appear, but will then disappear without downloading anything.
I have tried reloading the issue page (with Firefox's "reload page"), closing the journal tab and relaunching it from the library, updating the translator from the Connector's preferences, and closing and relaunching Zotero itself, as suggested in other threads on this Forum. Interestingly, I have also tried switching to Chrome (version 99.0.4844.51) and using its extension and that either doesn't help or doesn't help much: either the problem seems to affect all connections, across browsers, or it permits the download of missing items from one issue, then recurs.
That last observation suggests that it may be some kind of throttle implemented by Project MUSE, though, if it is a throttle, it kicks in at inconsistent points and without any warning to the user. But, it's unclear if it is actually occurring across browsers or simply recurring independently.
In any case, the Javascript errors shown in the report include "Zotero is not defined", "Zotero.GoogleDocs is undefined" and "Frame not found, or missing host permission". Could you perhaps clarify if this is a translator or connector issue with Zotero, a proxy issue with my university, or a host issue with Project MUSE? It's very annoying and isn't something I've faced with other journals on other platforms.
Thank you.
