Error on export

Report ID: 1873580915

Hi,

I am trying to export a folder of my library to share it with some colleagues and I receive an error message. I tried updating my translators and checking if I had the latest version, but nothing worked so far. This does not happen with other folders.

Thanks for your help
  • Can anyone help me on this?

    Thanks
  • What export format?
  • All of them... I cannot export the folder in any format.
  • [JavaScript Error: "Component returned failure code: 0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIFile.copyTo]" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translation/translate_item.js" line: 1210}]
Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for an export that fails?

Are you exporting to a particularly deep folder in the filesystem? If you export to one higher up (i.e., with a shorter path), does that help?
  • Or are you exporting somewhere within a symlinked/aliased folder?
  • This is the debug id: D591505223

I am exporting to a folder in the Desktop, so no deep folder. This is happening only with this folder, while I can export other folders from my Library smoothly.

    Thanks for your help

OK, so do you'll want to do a binary search to find the item that's causing this. Select half of the items and see if it still fails. If not, try the other half. Repeat until you find the item in question, and then see if you can tell what's different about the attachment under that item.
  • To try and identify the file or the files causing troubles would take a while, as it is a pretty big folder. But following your advice I was able to export the great majority of the files, and I'm happy with that.

    Thank you very much!

No, it wouldn't — that's the point of the method I suggested. It wouldn't take more than about 10 cuts no matter how many items you have in the collection, so you should be able to find the item in a couple minutes.
  • Following your instructions I was able to export both halves of the folder, the export did not fail. However, in the first round I had 2 more files than expected (49 instead of 47), while in the second round 3 files less than expected (47 instead of 44). I tried cutting to the first half of the second half, up until the first 10 items and I found one item that was not being exported. This item had no attachment nor any particular feature. I tried changing export format, this item was still not being exported. I guess something similar is happening with other two items.
  • On second thoughts, I think that there are 44 files instead of 47 in the second export because for those items without attachment no folder is created in the export. Considering that the export did not fail and that practically all the files are there, there may be something wrong with the folder containing all of them in the Library, and not with any single item.
