I am going to tack on to this thread. Please let me know if should start a new one, or if you are aware of a thread or page that directly addresses this question.
I am used to working with EndNote in MS Word. The way EndNote/Word is set up, at least at my work, is that when you insert a citation, it automatically starts building a bibliography at the end of the document. There are not two steps. Just - insert the ref in the text, and EN automatically builds and numbers the bibliography.
It appears that Zotero doesn't automatically do this - and as far as I can tell, adding the bibliography to the end of the word document is a "manual" operation. Meaning, I can generate the biblio in RTF or HTML or copy it to the clipboard, and then I have to insert it at the end of the document myself.*
*And, if I do this, I don't quite understand how it would update if I add or subtracts refs.
So far the tutorials I've found don't answer this question or seem to anticipate it / my expectation.
When you use the word processor plugin, Zotero will maintain a bibliography for you automatically based on the citations in the document. It sounds like you're just manually generating citations and bibliographies in Zotero, which is a much more rudimentary method. Read through Using the Zotero Word Plugin to understand how this works.
