Collaborative annotation of documents
I am desperately looking for a tool which would allow me to collaboratively annotate and run conversations over pdf documents in similar way how google docs or MS word do (without the need to edit the pdf in any other way beyond highlights and comment insertion).
As a huge bonus, the tool would integrate with Zotero as seamlessly as possible so that one has
one integrated reference managed and collaborative annotation workflow.
Despite my considerable search I have yet to come across a product or workflow solution that would fully cover this scenario?
The closest solution I found so far is Google Drive preview which does allow for inserting comments into shared pdf documents which then can be further annotated by others. But I don't know how to integrate this with Zotero workflow.
Any tips?

The reader doesn't currently allow comment threads as on Google Docs, but annotations by group members will be identified by their names. Being able to comment on annotations is something we could consider if there's enough demand.
Zotero the ultimate reference manager for us.
To follow up, if one enters a note into a shared pdf, will another person be able to modify this note? If that is the case, one can emulate the comment response through this. But of couse full-fledged response system like say in google docs would be faster and less clumsy.
Is there any ETA on when the annotations will be enabled for shared documents?
If I may, one last question. Is there any plan for notifications that let you know a document one is sharing has new annotations by someone else?
In this era of running research groups over Zoom half the time, having these remote collaborative features is a godsend. Thank you for your efforts.
Group admins will be able to modify all annotations. RegularGroup members will be able to edit only annotations they've created. We'll think about comment threads, but for now members could drop note annotations next to existing highlights to make comments.Group annotations should be up within the next couple weeks. Some visibility into group changes is planned, but nothing concrete to share yet. I agree it would be particularly useful for collaborative annotation.
