Upgrade StorageSwapping to beta from released version - impact on word docs?

I’m currently using Zotero 5.0.96.3 on Mac and have recently swapped from using Chrome to Safari. I’m wondering abut downloading the latest beta version so that I can run the Safari Connector plugin - as I did with Chrome. But, will downloading and installing the beta version mess up my incomplete work on Word Docs that has citations and links from Zotero in them? As presumably I would need to uninstall the current version which would then get complicated for my referenced docs. Or can I do this smoothly without messing up my documents? Any help would be great.

(But of course you should always have backups of any important work, including your documents and your Zotero data directory. Ideally you would just have an automated backup of your entire computer to an external disk using Time Machine.)
