get a single digit in Word rather than a citation

edited January 26, 2022
Have reinstalled Zotero and chrome plug in. bibliography works fine. However, whenever I try to add a citation in a new Word document, I get only a single digit.
error report here:

  • You would get a number if you're using a numeric citation style. If you want author and date, choose an author-date style such as APA.
  • (Since this is often misunderstood, note that citation styles are set for each document via "Document Preferences" in the Zotero Word add-on.)
  • APA style works for me for author and date. However, I need AMA style, and get only a single digit as superscript (and nothing else) when I try to insert a citation. I can then replace the Zotero field to a bibliography and get the full citation in AMA style.
  • AMA is a numeric style. An AMA in-text citation is a number.

If you actually want an author-date style, you can pick one from the styles page:

    https://www.zotero.org/styles?format=author-date
  • Is what you're looking for maybe a note style? Sounds to me like you want a full citation rather than a number?
Try Chicago full note/note that already comes with Zotero.
  • Also, to insert the bibliography at the end of the paper, place your cursor where you want the bibliography in your document and click the Add/Edit Bibliography button in the Zotero tab in Word
