Zotero 5 not working with LibreOffice 7.x

I just tried to make my zotero (last edition) work on a new manjaro Linux KDE laptop installation with libreoffice. First Libreoffice 7.1, then 7.2. Nothing works. I can't even see the extention in Libreoffice, cannot download it. Just won't work. Tried every trouble shooting guide around on you website. Please help
  • The LibreOffice extension needs a JDK configured to work with LibreOffice. This information is definitely available on the Zotero troubleshooting guide. What specifically have you tried so far?
  • I've tried the JRE 17 and the 11 to check if this would change a thing. JRE17 was installed and used by Libreoffice from the start. I suspected that it could be to recent, so I added another from the Arch repositories. Tried both, none worked . But before that I tried the following.
1° I tried to disable and then again enable the add on in Zotero
2° No extension showed up in LibreOffice either time
3° Downloaded the last Zotero, deleted the older one, and started the new one.
4° Repeated the steps mentioned above ad nauseum
5° Downloaded the ZIP file from the extension from git. Tried that. Now the buttons would appear in LibreOffice, but could not be used (didn't connect with Zotero and is was live all the time)
6° Purged LibreOffice from my computer.
    7° Reïnstalled LibreOffice.
8° Repeated all the steps above ad nauseum.
Reïnstalled LibreOffice actually 3 times until now to make sure I didn't skip a beat.
    Doesn't work until now.
  • You shouldn't need to download the extension from the repo, but when you attempt to install it manually into LibreOffice do you get any errors? If not, when you press extension buttons in LibreOffice do you get an error or are they simply non-responsive?
  • There are no extension buttons right now in my setup. No extension is visible in the extension manager. Adding it via the LibreOffice repository directly from there is impossible. So I tried once to make it work manually. The buttons that showed after I tried that were simply irresponsive. They didn't spawn any error messages. I deleted everything afterwards (even cache and LibreOffice Config files > purging it really)
  • See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation#libreoffice

If Java does not work with LibreOffice correctly doing this will display an error from LibreOffice. Buttons being unresponsive is also a sign of Java being configured incorrectly although if that's the case you're usually unable to (re)install the extension either.

So, how do I "configure" Java correctly then? I tried to uninstall JRE and then re-installed LibreOffice to avoid any miss during the install process. There are no options to configure JRE17 in my Manjaro Linux system available. But it just doesn't work. I am unable to install any extension from Zotero in LibreOffice. Anyway: the extension is not visible in LibreOffice extension manager at all. So it is impossible to use under this system?
  • Did you try manually installing the extension? What happened?

See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#installation_error for Java selection in LibreOffice. If a JRE is selected but you cannot install the Zotero extension via the extension manager or by double-clicking the oxt file then you will need to troubleshoot this with LibreOffice support and if using your distro's package manager, the package maintainers for LO and Java.
