Trouble with installing beta versions of Zotero

Hi! I downloaded the latest Zotero Beta version for Windows, but the installation won't run. It says extracting and then just stops. I downloaded the Zotero Beta version that was Windows Zip and that ran, but now my regular Zotero comes up with an error "This Zotero database requires Zotero 5.0.97-beta.55+3b993b2af or later.

Current version: 5.0.96.3

Please upgrade to the latest version from zotero.org." and then won't let me open Zotero and doesn't suggest any updates. I can't get Beta to download, so I'm unable to open any form of Zotero. Could someone help?
Thank you!
  • The beta version upgrades the database, as it says on the Zotero beta page, so if you ran that, you won't be able to open the regular version until Zotero 6 comes out. But you can still open the beta version. I'm not sure why you're saying you can't open Zotero in any form when you were able to run the ZIP version of the beta.

The installer for the beta should work fine, though — it's identical to the installer in the regular version. Restart your computer and try again.

But in any case, you can always just run the ZIP version of the beta.
  • This is good to know about the beta version upgrading the database, thank you! I didn't quite understand how that worked.
For some odd reason, the beta installer still isn't working for me even after restarting multiple times and downloading multiple times.
But the ZIP version of the beta is working now fortunately. Thanks for your help!
  • What exactly is happening with the installer? It's not progressing past the "extracting" screen?
  • That is correct. It says it's extracting but then the progress bar disappears and nothing happens next.
