Rescuing references after change of word processor

Hello,
in a collaborative project we used google doc to write a text and include references with zotero. The text was then exported to docx format, without following the instructions given in the documentation how to "move documents between word processors". After that, still quite some editing of the text happened in the docx. zotero does not recognize the references in the docx, nor does opening the docx as google doc work (references are unlinked).

I'm aware that this is not the proper way to handle changing the word processor. But is there any chance of converting the references in the docx to a format that zotero can recognize? The references in the docx are hyperlinks in the format https://www.zotero.org/google-docs/?<6-letters-or-digits>.
Or any other workaround that avoids having to re-insert all references?

Thanks.
  • You can still transfer your original google docs file into Word while maintaining Zotero citations, then use the Word compare documents feature to merge your current version with the old gdocs one. Otherwise you'll have to reinsert all those citations manually.
