One citation gets 2 index numbers

Hi, I am dealing with a problem. In a Word document, if I want to cite one article on two places in my work, the citation alwas gets a new index number. Please, what should I do? I wish that the second time I am citing the same article, it gets connected to the first citation and has the same index number as the first one.

There are a few things that can cause this. The simplest to solve is if you have that reference in your Zotero library 2 or more times and you cited different records of the same item. If that is the case, I would merge the Zotero records. Then delete each citation in your Word document and re-insert the citations again.

There can be other causes of this but those can require additional steps you will need to do to investigate and fix.
  • Which citation style? I suspect you're just using a footnote/endnote style -- those would always be sequential.
  • Thank you for advices. Sadly I am not able to change a citation style, Zotero always tells me there is a problem, but I don¨t know what is it. I think I will have to ask someone to take a look at it on my computer :)
