Zotero Connector not working

Hi, I'm trying to use Zotero for the first time on a pdf I have opened in Chrome that is saved to my Windows computer. I've followed all of the steps here: https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues and nothing has worked. I still see the icon both on right clicks and in the extension area, and it says it is available on the page. I have the Zotero program open, and nothing appears, and am connected to my Zotero online account. This is an error I have received:

    You’ll need to follow those steps to the end.

    Oh, but that’s not going to work. If you want to add a PDF already on your computer to Zotero, you just drag it to Zotero or use Store Copy of File from the New Item menu. The extension can’t run on a local PDF.

    I'd like to save just a specific passage in the pdf - how can I do this?

    Also, it's not saving any other web pages either, not just local files.

    You didn't, or you'd be providing more information.

    But see my second message above — if this is a local PDF, you wouldn't add it to Zotero that way. For webpages, we can't help without more information.

    Not sure what you mean by that. You can obviously copy whatever text you want to a Zotero note, but that's not the same as storing a PDF in Zotero or creating a parent item with metadata for the document.
