Zotero add-in not appearing in LibreOffice, Ubuntu

edited July 30, 2021
Recently my LibreOffice programme had the Zotero add-in happily installed. And then it didn't. I don't know why and have tried to understand and implement various suggestions online, but so far to no avail. I am currently quite dependant on these programmes, so help would be much appreciated.

Here's the situation:
Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
LibreOffice 7.1
Zotero 5.0.96.2

In Zotero/Preferences/Cite/Word processors: "LibreOffice add-in is currently installed"

In LibreOffice/Extension manager: No Zotero extension is listed.
If I try to add an extension, I can't actually navigate to where (I think) the extension file would be.

Back in Zotero, clicking "Reinstall LibreOffice Add-in" now produces an empty list. Originally, when I started trying to fix the problem there were two items; now none. When I try the Manual Installation, it opens up a link to 'Zotero-OpenOffice_Integration.oxt', but when I double click on it I get the error:

/opt/Zotero_linux-x86_64/extensions/zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration@zotero.org/install/Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt does not exist.

I believe the necessary Java software is installed (JDK).

During my various attempts I have uninstalled and installed LibreOffice and Zotero. I have been mindful to close the programmes when necessary. And restart my computer.

Thanks in advance.
  • If you copy the Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt file onto your desktop can you install it by double-clicking from there? Have you tried installing a different version of Java? Deleting (or renaming to keep a backup) the LibreOffice profile directory might help. Generally, this seems like some sort of file-access/permission issue, but could be due to Java incompatibility.
  • Thank you @adomasven, opening it from the desktop worked. You're right that it looked like a file access problem.
