How to disable the Data Syncing and File Syncing in the Zotero software?

Being a health authority, we can't allow the users to share/save data on any server outside the organization due to privacy and security concerns. Therefore, wondering is there any way that we can disable the Data Syncing and File Syncing in Zotero while/after the installing the Zotero application on clients computer.
  • You can disable data and file syncing in the preferences of the Zotero software and you could probably have this turned off by default upon install by using an install script, but it's not possible to disable (i.e. make it impossible for users to use) without modifying the software itself.

    If I recall correctly, there is an old thread on blocking the URLs Zotero uses for sync as an alternative.
  • Syncing is disabled by default until/unless someone sets up syncing with a Zotero account, so there wouldn't really be anything to do on that front post-installation.

    The nuclear option here would be blocking api.zotero.org at a network/DNS level. That's currently used for retraction lookups as well, so you'd break those, but we could consider moving those to another domain.
