NASA ADS import fails

I am using zotero 5.0.96 and firefox 89.0 (recently updated). Before that update, I was able to import references and papers from NASA ADS using Zotero Connector for firefox. Now, after the update, this import fails. Zotero Connector allows me to select papers from the list, but the "Done" button then produces no reaction whatsoever, and the library does not get updated. I do not get any error message -- the Zotero Connector panel either disappears or sometimes sticks on and can only be terminated from task manager.

Zotero Conector still functions for me just fine on other sources, such as webpages or pdf documents.

Thanks a lot in advance!
  • Unlikely to have anything to do with a Firefox update.

For a problem saving from a site, we'd need an example URL.
  • It looks like saving from search results will fail currently on NASA ADS now, though, since the translator is broken. Single-page saves will fall back to Embedded Metadata and will work for the data supplied that way. (It won't include a PDF unless an open-access PDF is available.)

    We'll fix the translator.

(Not sure what you're referring to by "the Zotero Connector panel […] sometimes sticks on and can only be terminated from task manager" — if you mean the save popup in the top-right corner, that's just a frame in the page and would go away just by reloading the page or navigating to a new page.)
  • Thank you for your quick answer and also for the fix which is apparently already there! I have just tried saving a group of references from an ADS list once more, and it worked. I am attaching the example URL with two articles which I used, and I have submitted separately a debugging report for this example (D1442570183).

    https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/search/fq={!type=aqp v=$fq_database}&fq={!type=aqp v=$fq_property}&fq_database=database: astronomy&fq_property=property: refereed&q=pubdate:[2021-01 TO 9999-12] title:(First%20M87)&sort=date%20desc%2C%20bibcode%20desc&p_=0
  • No, we didn't fix anything, but the problem may be inconsistent/intermittent based on something the site is doing. (I can't get the above URL to load at all at the moment, but trying to save for a search for "test" still fails for me.)
  • I am afraid the link was not transmitted correctly in my comment. What looks like the text right after the link, starting with

    (First%...

should also be part of the link.
  • No, I understood that, but the link still isn't working for me. It just results in an endless "Loading…" spinning in the search results section.
  • Sorry about that. Looks like the ADS site may indeed behave quite strangely.

I think you can reproduce the link by opening the classic form of the ADS search https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/classic-form

and searching for title text "First M87" and publication dates in 2021. This is how I got it in the first place.
  • Sorry, forgot to mention: I also checked the box "Refereed only" box.
