Internet link fail to open when clicking on a bibliographic reference,

Hello,
The internet link contained in my references are not properly opened in firefox when I click on the reference: a new firefox page opens (I usually use new tabs) showing my default page, and not the paper's reference at all.
I had a similar problem with thunderbird and had to set TRUE the values of these 3 items:
network.protocol-handler|.external-default |.warn-external.http |.warn-external.https

Zotero has different items.
Can you help me finding a solution?
Thanks,
Best
Sophie

Zotero version 4.0.26.3
Firefox 75.0 (64 bits)
Xubuntu (Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS)
  • Where exactly are you clicking to open a link?
  • If I double click on the reference itself, in the list, or
If I click on 'URL' inside the reference, it fails identically (new window opens on my homepage in navigator)
  • You're using an ancient version of Zotero (likely from an outdated debian repo?).
Update to the most recent version (5.0.85)
  • I have installed indeed Zotero 5.0.85 (sorry the version of yesterday in my message)
    Still the same behaviour
  • Zotero version 5.0.85
    Firefox 75.0 (64 bits)
    Xubuntu (Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS)
  • Zotero just launches the URL via the OS, so this is likely just some sort of problem on your system, but can you provide a Debug ID for clicking a link in Zotero?
  • Thanks!

    Debug ID
    D723220959

    Debug output
    version => 5.0.85, platform => Linux x86_64, oscpu => Linux x86_64, locale => fr-FR, appName => Zotero, appVersion => 5.0.85, extensions => Zotero LibreOffice Integration (5.0.22.SA.5.0.85, extension), Shockwave Flash (11.2.202.451, plugin)

    Nothing relevant in there.

You can try deleting mimeTypes.rdf in your Zotero profile directory and restarting Zotero, but that's the only thing in Zotero itself that could possibly affect this. Beyond that, you'll need to debug this on your own system. We really just launch the URL via the OS, and this works on a stock Ubuntu install.
  • Nothing changed when deleting mimeTypes.rdf.
Maybe the way I have installed the current version has a problem. For instance, the link present in my menu does not launch Zotero, the one I created on my desktop works. I have no idea if it is related to the weblink problem.
I will work this way, tant pis !
    Thanks for your help anyhow.
  • I too have this issue! It's not a big deal but is annoying.
  • Ubuntu 20.04
    Firefox 88.0.1
    Zotero 5.0.96.2
