The citations disappeared but lines show they are not gone?

Hey,
I need some help. When I opened my thesis this morning all of my citations are gone in my document but instead, there is a grey line where the parentheses with the references used to be. Does anyone know how to update this so it will work?

Can you take a screenshot of what you're seeing, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive), and provide a link here?

Maybe this work? So all my parentheses in the text that used to be filled with citations now looks like this.

You should use the document version history in Google Docs to figure out what happened with your citations.
