Last error: Password not provided

When I try to sync with the Zotero server I get the message:
Last error: Password not provided
When I check in Zotero preferences the password box is clear. After entering my password closing preferences and trying to sync again I get the same message and the password box is clear. Clearly the password is not being saved but I can't figure out why.
I'm not sure whether this is a Zotero or a Firefox problem. However, I have synced with Zotero previously with this set-up (although the problem may have started with an upgrade to Firefox 3.5.2 but I'm unsure of the timeline)
I'm running:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090701 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Shiretoko/3.5.2
My OS is CrunchBang Linux 9.04.01

    It's a Firefox problem. Zotero 2.0b6.5 should detect this automatically and give an appropriate warning, but, if not, try this:

    Also, before you do anything, reproduce the problem and send in an error report using Report Errors under the gear menu and post the Report ID here.

    I've upgraded to 2.0b6.5, got the warning and all seems fine. I did actually get it working in 6.4 but it's a long and rather dumb story.
