Continued probelms with Synchronization

I have 3 machines (all macs). I can guarantee that the synchronization will fail if I try to make updates on more than one of them (even if the updates are hours apart). Unless I give up the intended benefit of using multiple machines, I am unable to do my work, and I am unable to get help from my assistant in my research.

I have reported this error before. I have now zeroed out and replaced the local data on my machines may be 20 or 30 times (according to the advice from the support team last time). I am getting tired of doing this, and losing work. Could you please tell me when you expect to get synchronization working correctly?

ERROR REPORT: 1180856492
  • I have reported this error before.
Yes, but you didn't respond to the person who responded to you, which somewhat limits our ability to help you.

However, both of the errors from your previous thread have in fact been fixed, so any errors you're receiving now are unrelated. We need an error report from any individual machine to be able to diagnose the problem, but for the one above, please restart Firefox, turn on debug logging in the Advanced pane of the Zotero prefs, perform a sync (which will fail, presumably), and then send in the debug output and post the Report ID here.

Do you have auto-sync enabled on these machines? What are Report IDs from Report Errors on the other machines after trying to sync?
  • Dan - thank you for your response. I didn't notice it until I just logged in. (I assumed it would come in my regular email). To your questions:
    1. OK - I will try turning on debugging. I didn't know that was available. Thank you.
    2. Auto-Sync is NOT enabled, on any of my machines. We sync manually because it has been so fragile.
    3. I just submitted another report from my P2 machine (iMac running 10.5.7 / Firefox 3.0.12). This was sync'd from my Assistant's machine (a Macbook, running 10.5.8, and Firefox 3.5.2). See my previous report from earlier today.

It looks like one of my machines is not fully updated. I will update it, and run the test. If it fails, I will turn on Debug, and run again.

    Thank you, Paul
  • I updated The iMAc to 10.5.8, and downloaded a fresh version of Firefox, it is now running 3.5.2. I still get the same sync error. The new number is: 1252048648

I WAS UNABLE TO PASTE THE DEBUG LOG IN HERE. GOT ERROR MESSAGE: comments is 173504 characters too long.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you have a regular email address I can send it through?
  • there is a support@z...o.org email address, but more appropriately the debug mode in the advanced preferences has a "submit to Zotero server" option which you should use and then report the ID here.
  • I already submitted the error id n the advanced preferences with the "submit to Zotero server" option. The error number was : 1252048648 (See above)

I just sent the debug log directly to your support@z ... .org email address.

Thank you for your prompt response to my previous message. I apologize for not seeing the earlier response from a week or so ago. My email spam filters must need some tuning.

    Kind regards, Paul
  • I have now submitted the log directly to your server from within Zotero.
  • I have just completed the upgrade of my P1 system to Snow Leapard.

I'm still getting sync errors (on this new machine). I turned on debugging, and Submitted the Debug log to the Zotero server. The report ID is D959262847

    The Error ID is 456858406
  • This should now be fixed in the latest dev build, and the fix will be included in 2.0b7 within a few days.

If you'd like to test the fix now, you can save this file into your Zotero extension directory ([Firefox profile]/extensions/zotero@chnm.gmu.edu) and restart Firefox. Make sure you have a backup of your Zotero data directory first.
