References not in correct APA format

Hello, even though I have chosen APA format in both the preferences and the citation tabs, the References do not load correctly.
The references aren't double spaced and they aren't indented as they should be. The body of the paper is fine, but when I added the References at the end, they are incorrect. HELP!
  • For some reason the "bibliography" style in Word got messed up. You can try to delete and re-insert the bibliography. If that doesn't help, adjust said style in Word.

(by default, Zotero does this right and the style is correct, but there are some unclear circumstances in which the relevant Word setting gets wiped)
  • Thank you for affirming that I'm not crazy. I have deleted and re-inserted with the same incorrect results.
Maybe I'm not doing exactly what you are suggesting. I fixed everything by hand a few months ago but added new sources and now I can't remember how I was able to change the indentations. I can change the spacing but I can't get the source not to highlight when I'm trying to fix it.
    So frustrating!
  • It sounds like you're changing the formatting for the bibliography directly. That'll get overwritten whenever you update the reference list with Zotero. You want to change the Word style "Bibliography" (and in particular, the paragraph formatting).
See e.g. https://guides.lib.umich.edu/c.php?g=283073&p=1888266 for Word styles (but you can find many more tutorials on doing this)
