How to get the Google authentication window to show up in Google docs?

I'm using Firefox on Linux. If I press the Zotero button in Google docs I only get a tiny empty bar. Pressing the Zotero logo does nothing. Zotero connector is the only activated plugin. I have Zotero open.
According to the docs, when pressing the Zotero button I should get a window requesting that I authenticate Zotero. That doesn't happen. What am I doing wrong?

If I press the Zotero button in Google docs I only get a tiny empty bar.
Can you take a screenshot showing you mean, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox), and provide a link here?

A Report ID from the Zotero Connector would also be helpful.
  • It seems Zotero actually has already been given permissions, but it only works normally in the session right after being given permission. After that, it doesn't work. Removing permissions, restarting zotero, and reloading the docs.google document and then clicking on the Add citation button allows one to use it normally again (after being asked to give permissions), but only for the length of the editing session. After that, the process has to be repeated.

  • If the Zotero menubar does not have any entries there is some problem in the browser, very likely a conflict with another extension. Google permissions for Zotero have nothing to do with the issue you're seeing. You should try disabling other extensions in the browser and seeing whether the menu starts appearing every time you refresh the page.
  • The only not deactivated add-ons that are listed are zotero connector and some language packs (they don't have an option to be deactivated and I can't remove the last one (pt-PT) even in safe-mode (the others however have been removed now)).
Does seem to be a problem with the browser. Zotero Connector has no problem with Chromium.
  • You could try creating a new Firefox profile and see whether it works there.
  • Ok, I did that now. That specific problem is gone now. (I don't know how, since I don't really have any extensions other than a language pack)
But now Zotero doesn't detect Zotero citations (even those that were just added), but I guess that should be a separate discussion.
I don't know how to find the thing that was causing the problem in the first profile.
  • Yeah, there's occasional problems with profile config or even cached scripts or similar. If you're having problems with citations not being detected and it happens in a new document please create a separate thread with the steps on how to reproduce.
  • You could try a refresh of your initial FF profile. Be aware that it does keep certain things, but also get rid of a bunch of things. Read carefully and evaluate what you need to backup/note down, before doing so: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings
