My references are centre-justified in Word/Zotero

If I reformat them to left-justified, it works, but only until I next 'refresh', when it reverts them back to centre-justified. This is quite bizarre; I have never met this before. I can live with this ... but it shouldn't be happening.
Has anyone any ideas on how this might be fixed permanently?
Thanks.
  • You can adjust the Word style "bibliography" -- that's what Zotero applies when refreshing.
  • Thanks Adam. I didn't realize that Word had a 'Bibliography' style.
    All sorted now!
  • I think Zotero might create that, not sure, though.
  • Yes, that makes sense.
  • How do you adjust the Word style "bibliography?" I am struggling to change the settings so that reference lists are not centered.
  • If the references are centered, you should just be able to switch to a different style and back to reset the bibliography style. That shouldn't be the case.

Here's how you edit styles in Word: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/customize-or-create-new-styles-d38d6e47-f6fc-48eb-a607-1eb120dec563
  • Thanks. I am able to change the style using the "Styles" feature in Word, but--like the person who originally asked the question--whenever I refresh my bibliography list using Zotero, the references all become centered again and I have to reformat them using "Styles" in Word. How do I set things up so that when Zotero formats or reformats a bibliography, the references are automatically left justified rather than center justified?
  • Sorry -- I meant switch to a different Zotero citation style (like IEEE or so) and back. That should in many cases fix this.

If it doesn't, see the link the MS on how to edit styles (in this case: the "Bibliography" style) in Word.
  • Thank you! Switching to a different Zotero citation style did not work, BUT modifying the "Bibliography" style under "Style Panes" in Word did work. The "Bibliogrpahy" style was set up to center justify, so I switched it to left justify. (I am using a Mac, in case that makes a difference.)
