Zotero adding a space before numbered in-text citation

Greetings,

I am switching styles from PNAS to Nature. When refreshing the references, Zotero added a space before each numbered in-text citation. Short of editing the spaces out manually, how can I fix this or edit the style to eliminate the spaces? I read another thread from 2015 where someone was having the reverse issue, but I can not figure out how to edit the style to eliminate the space instead of adding one (i.e., prefix=" "). I'm not super savvy about editing code.

I read the following page but did not come up with an answer: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step

Thanks for your help!

Are you sure Zotero actually added the space? It's not in the style. I'd guess what you're seeing is that numbers in parentheses like PNAS would typically have a space before them (1-4) but superscript numbers like Nature wouldn't⁵. Search & replace would indeed be your best option here, but that shouldn't be complicated using Word's advanced search&replace functionality.

Hmmm...yes, that is possible. I could do a global search and replace, but for what? Space plus each individual number? There is too much data in the paper and I would risk removing intentional spaces before other numbers. If you can think of a better way, please let me know. Too bad it isn't easier to switch styles mid-stream.
