Zotero Libreoffice communication issue

Setup : Debian zotero and libroffice last version

I have this message each time I try to use the libroffice extension :
LibreOffice could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure Zotero is open and set to an online state and try again.

Even if zotero is open.

A couple of days ago I moved my folder with zotero to a new directory that's maybe why libreoffice can't find it. I try to reinstall the extension but it's not working.
And I can't find out how to settle that.

Could someone help me ?

Thank you in advance.
  • How did you install Zotero? We can only provide support for the official tarball from the download page. If you're running a packaged version — particularly something like a Snap that runs Zotero in a sandbox — that could be the problem, though from other threads I believe people have gotten this working with the Snap package.
  • Hi, thank you dstillman for you answer.

I installed zotero from the official tarball, and it worked perfectly fine for a while, I'm quite sure the problems appears because I move my installation folder to a new directory, but I can't undo it know, and I don't know how to settle that...
  • What do you mean by your "installation folder"?
  • I mean the place where I run the application. I am on Debian. I think the path Libreoffice use to find zotero is not good anymore but I can't find where to find it.

[Edit: See Adomas's response below. I forgot about a situation where moving the application directory can cause this.]

No, the plugin doesn't care where the Zotero app files are located.

But if you can't find those files — if that's what you're saying — I'd question whether you're actually still using the tarball version.

It's easy enough to test this by downloading the tarball again and running ./zotero from there and seeing if citing works.

You can also just restart your computer and try again.
  • @zhorkan Go into your Zotero profile directory and move extensions.json to desktop, then restart Zotero.
