Restoring library from .bak file

Hi,
I mistakenly moved my Zotero folder from default C:\Users\taohi to another folder (on 9/24/2020). I hit cancel as soon as I noticed it(it was only 1% completed). After that, my library is empty.

Here is the list of zotero.sqlite files

Name Size Date Type

zotero.sqlite 1.07 MB 9/24/2020 SQLITE File (.sqlite)
zotero.sqlite.1 20.1 MB 9/15/2020 bak File
zotero.sqlite 20.1 MB 9/23/2020 bak File
zotero.sqlite-journal 105KB 9/24/2020 SQLITE-JOURNAL File
(.sqlite-journal)
I tried to rename one of the .bak file but failed. Both the sqlite bak file has the same name.

Could you please help me to get my library from bak file?

Thanks

Both the sqlite bak file has the same name.
They don't — you just have Windows set not to display file extensions. You should change that so you can see and modify the full filename.

A 1 MB zotero.sqlite file is an empty database. I'd guess that your real (i.e., 20 MB) zotero.sqlite file is simply in the location where you tried to move it, and this may be as simple as dragging it back and overwriting the empty 1 MB file. If you can't find the file you moved, you can restore to the last automatic backup by deleting zotero.sqlite and renaming the 20 MB zotero.sqlite.bak to zotero.sqlite.

You should make a backup of all of these files before touching anything.
  • Thanks, It worked fine.
