Zotero Integration Error

Hi I recently upgraded my Mac os to Catalina 10.15.6 from High Sierra. I have no idea if this has cased a problem with Zotero bu I/m getting an error message when wanting to insert citation saying:

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1743.) @[getDocument:application.m:81]

I am using word for Mac

Any ideas?

Which Word version exactly (it'd be something like 16.40)

And that happens in a fresh, otherwise empty document or only in existing ones?

I am starting a new document and trying to insert citation. I've also gone into an old doc where I had used Zotero and it won't allow me to insert there either.

Might it be something to do with a firewall? Sorry i'm not very tech savvy!

Possible but unlikely -- could you also please confirm your Zotero version number? I'm only aware of this occurring with old versions of Zotero

Also says I need to upgrade to version 5 if i need to sync which hasn't happened for two years apparently! However, I'm scared i'll lose my library if i do that?

Yes, that'd be the problem.

While you should always have a back up of your Zotero library (see https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#backing_up_your_zotero_data ) updating Zotero is not going to delete anything and you should definitely do so.
