error saving a pdf file

error message: "An error occurred while saving this item. Try again, and if the issue persists see Getting Help for more information."
when hovering over the 'save to Zotero' button, I get "Save to Zotero (PDF) has access to this site".

    While that shouldn't fail, on any sort of journal like that you should save from the article page, not the PDF itself.

    What happens when you do that?
