CMS Collected Works
I've read just about every thread I can find going back to about 2012 that touches on issues of multivolume anthologies or collected works.
My particular case is relatively simple. (I don't need volume titles!) I simply need Chicago Full Note to include the volume number in front of the page number for subsequent citations.
I am using the individual title as a "Book Section."
Right now this is what I am seeing in my notes:
1. John Owen, “Two Short Catechisms (1645),” in The Works of John Owen, ed. William Goold and A. Thomson, vol. 1, 17 vols. (Edinburgh: T. & T. Clark, 1862), 463–494. <--- this is good!
2. (different citation, to avoid an Ibid in my test case.)
3. Owen, “Two Short Catechisms (1645),” 480–492. <-- help!!
I'd like to edit my Chicago Full Note style to include the collection and volume number before the pages. So this is my goal:
Owen, "Two Short Catechisms (1645)," in <i>The Works of John Owen, 1:480-492.
Any help?

@bwiernik can you elaborate on how to do what you suggested?
I could do without the "in _Works_" (although maybe I can find a workaround with a container title?), but I need the Chicago full-note style to include [volume-number + colon + pages] eg: 2:24-25.
This is what Chicago 17 requires (see §14.120) -- if the official CSL doesn't support it, can someone help me at least learn how to modify the style so that if there's a volume number on a book section or book, it appears before the page number?
I can't think of an instance in which I *wouldn't* want a volume number in front of a page number. I'd rather manually delete those rare occurrences when they come up, but a page number without a volume number is essentially worthless in a multivolume work in almost every example I can imagine.
Also open to workaround solutions.
CMoS 14.120 doesn't have any examples of subsequent notes and CMoS 14.118 doesn't have an example of a book chapter, so this is not clearly determined in the manual, but I'm fairly confident that my interpretation is correct here.
If you do want to manually change this, you can change the first line in this
<else-if type="book graphic motion_picture report song" match="any">
<group delimiter=":">
<number variable="volume" form="numeric"/>
<text variable="locator"/>
</group>
</else-if>
to include
chapter
