First time install
Is this available to people outside GMU? I've spent most of the afternoon trying to install zotero (various ways), worked through documentation, upgraded my firefox to 3.5.1, tunred everything off and on again a bunch of times but i can't seem to get it to install, any tips gratefully received

I registered etc and then tried installing by clicking on the download, first version 1 and then 2 beta. I got the screens and commands I expected eg "allow" then "install" but no zotero evident once firefox restarted. Then I tried down loading install file and dragging it into firefox. This generated error message below. Then I read through various docs and screens, upgraded the firefox, looked for zotero in view (not there) and add-ons (where I can see copy of 1.0.10 with the message that it will be updated when Firefox is restarted, which it has been a bunch of times) and kept trying to install but without success
error message.....
Firefox could not install the file at
file:///C:/Users/simon/Downloads/zotero-2.0b6.3.xpi
because: Not a valid install package

Many thanks

This isn't a problem on our end, so there's not much we can do about it.

A work around to this issue is to create a new firefox profile. On my machine the zotero extension then installed to that new profile with no problem.
At the moment I have a separate firefox profile for zotero, but it should be possible to move all your existing settings/extensions/bookmarks/etc over from the old profile. However, as Mozilla warns, "Using multiple profiles and profile management are advanced features intended primarily for extension developers. Unless you are an advanced user or are troubleshooting a specific problem with Firefox, you should avoid using multiple profiles."
Hope that helps.
The solution for me was to download the zotero-1.0.10.xpi file on my machine and than dragging it to Firefox.
