Empty Database. Zotero Data Disappeared on Desktop. Available on zotero.org
I am getting the following message:
"You are about to sync the ‘xxx.xxx’ account to an empty Zotero database. This could happen if you removed your previous database or if the location of your Zotero data directory changed.
If your Zotero data exists elsewhere on this computer, you should move it to the current data directory or change the data directory location to point to your existing data."
[note xxx.xxx actually shows as my account name]
1. My full database is still available online, via zotero.org
2. I can't find any other data directory on my local storage, e.g., I searched for instances of zotero.sqlite and there is only one - a newly created one.
3. I have not done anything proactive to delete or move the location of files, though I did have some unrelated IT work done on the computer.
Note: it appears that if I tried to synch the desktop version with the online contents - the warning message implies I will lose all my citations, and attached files.
How can I "restore" my original database to my local instance on my Mac.
How can I "find" my Zotero data, so I can move it to the current data directory (or change the data directory location ..)
Many thanks ..

Upgrade Storage
If you have used Zotero on this computer before, the possibilities are basically those listed in the error message.

I use Zotero everyday.
When I'm connected to my account in zotero.org, I can see my library's organization as it's supposed to be (with all the sections, sub-sections and so on).
However, I never upgraded storage. And strangely, when I clicked on upgrading storage, it states that my actual library is 302.7 MB. But it's supposed to be way more: I had 5,6 Go of pdfs !
What can I do to restore my libray in these conditions? :-(
Thank you in advance,
Thom
Did your or the IT people make a complete backup of the computer before they did work on it?
You can always sync to pull down your data, but without your old data directory you'd be missing any files that weren't uploaded because of the quota.
I did many backups but only by exporting the library via RDF, I mean, only the files (pdfs, and so on) without the orderings (the meta data that are comprised in the "zotero.sqlite" I guess ?).
So if I understood well the sync will just bring me back the organization of the whole library as it was (with the hierarchies of folders), but not all the files, only those that were synced online? (So only quite a few compared to the 5go that were present)
Is there any other hope to find back the whole library as it was? :-(
Thank you in advance
If you don't have a copy of the original data directory, I would recommend just syncing to pull down your data (and 300 MB of files) and then, as you use Zotero and come across files that are missing, using Locate to find them within the numbered directories of the latest export directory you have (using the search bar in the file dialog). When you choose a file elsewhere on your computer from the Locate dialog, Zotero will copy it back to the appropriate place in the data directory. (If you want to go through them all one by one now, you can show the Attachments column in the middle pane and look for attachments with an empty blue circle.)
Thank you very much in advance!
