DeBug info...please help -Local files will not sync to WebLibrary

edited April 18, 2020
As I have tried to sync the Web Library to the Local library on my laptop. Last time I used it, everything was fine. Now for some reason, nothing will update on my Web Library, and most of what is in my Local Library is missing from the Web Library. AND there are 53 Old files that were likely deleted in 2015, that keep showing as open, and asks me to choose a file to use in the update...I do and nothing happens. all 53 error files return on a separate window. I JUST figured out how to send you the Debug scripts...See below. Please help!

Frustrated with a project due!!!!
  • The Chrome extension doesn't have anything to do with syncing, and if you're getting a sync error we'd want to see a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) from Zotero (not the Zotero Connector) for a sync that failed.

A conflict resolution window isn't itself an error, though. You should just need to choose which side you want to keep. You might be getting a sync error after you resolve the conflicts, but in that case you'd have to say more about that, not the conflicts. See Repeated Conflicts.

NOW, I cannot save any new files from the internet to my local Zotero.
@tjyoung1400: Saving to your local Zotero from your browser also doesn't have anything to do with syncing, so I'm not totally sure what you mean by this or how it relates to the above.
  • I decided to shut down all files and reboot my computer. I received a message
Report #1405686778 that said something like "Too many attempts to sync files Library 1"

I've been using this system for 4 years and NOW it decides to not work.

I'm rebooting my computer and will check back in.
  • That's still a Report ID, not a Debug ID for the sync attempt.
  • The Debug ID is D1557613321.
  • And that's a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector, not a Debug ID from Zotero.

If the problem you're reporting is about syncing, we need a Debug ID from Zotero for a sync attempt that fails.

If the problem you're reporting is something else, you'll have to describe in detail exactly what you're doing and what's happening.
  • it is VERY VERY hard to handle this without talking to a live person...in real time.
Any way you can call me?

Here is the Debug ID you asked for. please HELP me! :)
  • OK, that's a sync, but you submitted the output before the sync actually finished and before you received any sort of error. You need to start debug output logging, reproduce the actual problem you're experiencing (e.g., start syncing and wait until you get an error), and then submit it.

We don't provide phone support, sorry. But we help many people a day here, and we can do so very effectively, but only if you clearly explain the problem you're experiencing and provide the information we ask for. It's not even clear to me at this point what the main problem is that you're experiencing.
  • D493248562 Hopefully this helps.
  • When I use the sync arrow, it sends me a screen that says:
    Conflict Resolution
The following item has been changed in multiple locations. Click the version to use for resolving conflicting fields, and then click Next.

I choose the version I want to use, click next 53 times....and FINISH.
the same message pops up again and again, and nothing is resolved.
  • I took a screen shot, but have no way of showing you, as the email has NO REPLY

  • You can upload screenshots somewhere (e.g., Dropbox) and post a link here.
  • @tjyoung1400: What exactly happens after you click Finish? Your debug output seems to show the sync completing successfully. Do you see an error icon next to the sync icon? If so, what does it say when you click on it?
  • no there is no error next to the icon.
The message goes away and then later returns, anytime the sync is used. I cannot utilize the WebLibrary, only the one found on my local laptop. I've tried to reinstall the connectors for Firefox and Chrome, thinking that was the issue, but it didn't help. I'm wondering if the login for zotero is a different account on either of the libraries?? I'll do a screenshot and endeavor the send you a link.

Here is the screenshot of the issue...
Please let me know if you need any further information.
    Thanks

That's not shared publicly: "You must have a Dropbox Business account to access that page."

You can also just email a screenshot to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.
  • @tjyoung1400: Actually, don't worry about the screenshot. I think I know what's going on here. Stay tuned. (For the moment, you may want to just disable file syncing in the Sync pane of the preferences to prevent the conflict resolution window from appearing every time. Either way, your library data will continue to sync.)
  • Hi...Any ideas for me? I didn't hear back from you @dstillman
