CSL: Use Compact Numeric Notation citations with expanded Page References

I am looking to modify the IEEE.CSL format to allow for compact Numeric Notations with expanded page references. How do I edit the csl to support this?

Problem:
The Citation definition in the IEEE.csl uses

225: citation collapse="citation-number"

which also appears to collapse the end of page citation references.

IEEE CSL Ref: https://csl.mendeley.com/styleInfo/?styleId=http://www.zotero.org/styles/ieee

Intent is to

Example: A page:

--- Page 1
Product baz [1]–[3]

1] J. Doe, First book. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2005.

[2] J. Doe, “Article,” Journal of Generic Studies, vol. 6, pp. 33–34, 2006.

[3] J. Doe and J. Roe, “Why water is wet,” in Third book, S. Smith, Ed. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2007.

--- End of Document

  • I’m not following what you want to do. What does the original IEEE style do and what exactly do you want different?
  • When I generate the document using the IEEE style [1-3] citations on the page only show first, and last citation. I want to show all the page references citations but condense the citation numbers.
  • Sorry, still not following, you'll have to slow this down even more.
So you have three items you're citing. IEEE does [1]-[3]. You want [1],[2],[3] or not?

And the "page references" I don't know what that is. IEEE doesn't do anything else than number and bibliography. Do you mean you want footnotes? That's a completely different logic of referencing and can't be combined with IEEE in any reasonable way.
  • Poor communication on my part...

    I want the following:

    page 1 ---

    Product baz [1]–[3]

Now on the same page as the above citation I want to insert the expanded references to the above. The footnotes? for 1, 2, and 3. I then want to duplicate the information at the end of the document via a bibliography.

  • Now on the same page as the above citation I want to insert the expanded references to the above.
Yeah, that's not possible. You can look at Chicago Manual of Style (full note) to see if that's what you want, but a numeric style with footnotes (i.e. extended citations at the bottom of the page, as you refer to them) can't be done -- certainly not with Zotero/CSL, but you're stretching Word's capabilities there, too.
