OO 3.1 plugin 2.0a2 with 2.0b5 failure to install
I'm running into the same problem as Anne B here:
http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/7236/oo-plugin-dead-on-arrival/#Item_3
However, I'm already running OpenOffice 3.1.0 on Debian Squeeze/Sid with Zotero.oxt version 2.0a2.
Briefly, I have tried reinstalling the plugin using all permutations of the following:
first removing all traces from
~/.openoffice/3/user/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages/fbIlhg_/
via the Extension Manager, using unopkg with OO closed, rm Zotero.oxt
then reinstalling using Extension manager, using unopkg with OO closed, and double-clicking on Zotero.oxt.
I then did a fresh install of OpenOffice, and I got the same results.
Here is the error that results:
$ unopkg add Desktop/Zotero.oxt --verbose
Copying: Zotero.oxt
ERROR: Error binding package: vnd.sun.star.expand:$UNO_USER_PACKAGES_CACHE/uno_packages/fbIlhg_/Zotero.oxt

unopkg failed.
Thanks for help!

I haven't been able to resolve this issue.
Is there anyone else out there using the OO plugin 2.0a2 in Debian or Ubuntu?
I'm interested to see if my situation is unique.
Thanks,
-Chris
Did you first try to add the extension from OpenOffice first?
Regards, Jon.
Thanks for your response.
I had initially tried adding the extension within OpenOffice using the Extension Manager. Once this didn't work, I found the command line version of this (unopkg) at least gave me some errors to troubleshoot.
Maybe I'm missing some packages? Which .deb files for OO 3.1 do you have installed on your system?
Thanks,
-Chris

I realize there were warnings about the need to run openoffice 3.1, but I could not resolve the above installation problem with the latest build from openoffice, nor from Debian Testing (1:3.1.0-5) or Experimental (1:3.1.1~ooo310m14-1).
realizing my install was a bit redundant, I removed all traces of openoffice and uno from my system, and reinstalled from the Stable (Squeeze) repo:

This seemed to fix my install problem, as "unopkg add Zotero.oxt" worked fine this time. I now have the icons and toolbar showing up in writer.
Adding a citation, however, brings me to the "An error occurred contacting Zotero. Please ensure firefox is open and try again."
I've verified that this is isn't happening on Zotero/firefox's side (zotero debug output states: "Integration HTTP server listening on 127.0.0.1:50001" ), and netstat indicates only one program listening to port 50001:
<snip>
tcp 0 0 cthulhu:50001 *:* LISTEN
<snip>
where chthulhu is localhost 127.0.0.1 (here's the first line in /etc/hosts):
127.0.0.1 cthulhu
I tried disabling my firewall, and my gnome configuration for network proxy settings is "direct internet connection". In addition, firefox is set to "auto-detect proxy settings for this network". I changed this to "no proxy" and "use system proxy settings", but this did not resolve the issue.
Zotero did not report any errors during these efforts to troubleshoot.
Anyone have insight or experience on this "connection" issue from Debian/Ubuntu?
port state service
50001 open unknown
What other tool can I use to know for sure which service is using this port?

Opening OO showed the Zotero.oxt extension still installed, so I finally had the plugin installed in 3.1 This continued to have thecommunication error described above. Nothing has changed wrt debug output or reported errors, network settings, etc.
I removed the plugin using the Extension Manager gui, and once again, I cannot reinstall it with the original problem:
ERROR: Error binding package: vnd.sun.star.expand:$UNO_USER_PACKAGES_CACHE/uno_packages/<randomstring>_/Zotero.oxt
Cause: an error occured during file opening
I will use this workaround to reinstall the plugin within 3.1 and continue trying things...
Any ideas are welcome!
Thanks,
-Chris

where <randomstring> is my addition...any idea why these files (pythonpath.zip and pythonpath) aren't around?
