"Zotero Experienced an Error Updating Your Document"

We are getting the above error whenever we try to insert a bibliography or citation into a document. It makes no difference if we create a new bibliography, use a new document (blank), or change styles. Anyone any ideas?

    Have you tried restarting your computer? Did it used to work fine on this computer before? Any idea what changed on the system? What is the specific version of Word that you are running?

    Yup, we've tried all of that. We've never had it work on this computer.

    We are using Word 2016.

    What's the specific version of Word (e.g. 12527.20278)? Could you create a new user account on the computer and see if it citing works there?
