Nature style bibliography numbering issue
Hey all -
When I use the Nature citation style and try to copy/paste into word, the numbers take up their own line instead of lining up with the actual citations. When I export to an HTML page the format works, and when I look at preview in Zotero the format works, but it doesn't translate into Word. I tried on my Mac, my Windows computer at work, and Google Docs on both, it's all the same issues. Does anyone know how to deal with this?

bwiernikThis is controlled by the Word processor, not Zotero. In Word, edit the "Bibliography" document style (https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Customize-or-create-new-styles-in-Word-d38d6e47-f6fc-48eb-a607-1eb120dec563) to change the tab width or just select the bibliography text and adjust the tab stops (https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Set-clear-or-remove-tab-stops-06969E0F-2C81-4FE0-8DF5-88F18087A8E0). Similar adjustments are possible in Google Docs.

itsmelaurencSo I tried both and it didn't fix the problem - it's as if there is an "enter" after every number.

bwiernikCan you turn on the Paragraph Formatting marks and take a screenshot, then upload to Dropbox or Imgur or similar and post a link here?

adamsmithThis is a longstanding issue with how Word and Google doc interpret HTML from the clipboard. The only way to copy&paste such bibliographies is to save them to RTF, open in Word & then save. RTF is also what the Word/Google Doc add-on uses, so those formats work, too.

itsmelaurencHey, that worked! Thanks so much!!

ecp52If you want to retain hyperlinks to doi or url, you can preview the bibliography using 'Preferences:cite:Zotero style preview' ...and copying from preview into Word-- that resolved the issue with line numbers for me (Word 2016 on Windows 10)
