Connecting Zotero to Microsoft on my laptop

I am having trouble connecting Microsoft word to zotero on my 2017 MacBook Pro. I went to preferences and then cite but the only option to choose is "use classic add citation dialog." When I click on that, nothing happens. Can anyone help me with this?

    Can you provide a Report ID from Zotero?

    Is Zotero in Applications? Or are you starting it from somewhere else on your computer?

    If you go to Tools → Add-ons, do you see the Word and LibreOffice plugins listed and enabled?
