I realize this is an old comment, but I am trying to apply the JFS style to an ms I am working on and found that the style is not inline with the current standards, at least for the in-text citation. They don't have a guide, but recent publications in that journal show that in-text citations are not a superscript as the style in Zotero is setup. Rather, they are in parentheses and are not in super or subscript. Example:
I want to reference this (1-3). Any help to resolve this would be appreciated.

I was thinking that might be the case; they updated it.

The bibliographic citations need the following adjustments, as far as I can see:
1. Article titles for journals need to be sentence case, not title case
2. At least in my Early View citations, the style does not follow the format of what the journal lists on their website after the article title (copied and pasted directly from the guide on their website: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal/15564029/homepage/forauthors.html). Here is the format after article title:
J Forensic Sci doi: 10.1111/1556-402.14019. Epub 2019 Feb 08.

That's all I found for right now.

0. In-text: changed
1. sentence case: in Zotero, just right click on your citation's title and choose "sentence case"
2. added DOI for preprint.

So, a colleague and I went to use the style on two separate papers for JFS and found the double periods are corrected, but now the doi is gone. It is not populating?

Oh interesting... we do need it to populate every time; we just received this guidance from the editor 2 weeks ago.

Just checked some recent papers. Some do have DOIs, some don't.
But if it was requested by the editors, let's change it.
I also changed the doi format to the https://doi.org/... as seen in recent papers.

@treese7: You're missing a Date value. Note that you have to actually review and if necessary correct any data you import into Zotero or any similar tool before citing it — you can't simply assume that it will be correct.

Based on the metadata on the page, the date would presumably be 2004, 2021, or 2004–2021. You can view the example citations on that page for guidance.

(Whether this style should be updated to allow an item to not have a Date, I don't know.)

JFS now requires square brackets: Within the text, tables and figures, cite references by Arabic numeral in square brackets [ ].

Hello! In addition to the brackets, the DOI appears to be differently formatted now. Instead of https://doi format it is now doi:
