Zotero Not Loading - Google Docs

I am trying to update my citations in my google document, but every time I try, the zotero processor freezes and I have to force quit zotero. I have tried unlinking the citations but the same thing happens. Instead, the document is frozen on "updating" and zotero is frozen on the red loading bar. I have tried clearing my browser history, redownloading zotero, etc, and nothing has worked.

How long have you waited? Due to performance limitations in Google Docs, if you have a lot of citations the update can take a while.

You can disable automatic citation updates from the plugin's document preferences to insert citations without waiting for them all to update, and then do a final refresh at the end (or periodically when you have time).
  • I have the same problem, in a 500 character google docs with no actual citations inserted yet. I've tried to insert just one citation but as soon as I press "add/edit citation" the document freezes saying "Zotero is updating your document. Please wait...". I've waited 45 minutes and nothing happens. If i reload the page the problem dissapears, but if I try the same thing again it freezes again. The same thing happens with the progress bar. It freezes at 75% or 100% green, and nothing happens unless you force quit the desktop zotero.
I've tryed using different styles of citation, different articles/citations but nothing works.
  • @deidaran restart both Zotero and your Browser, then attempt inserting a citation in a new Google Docs document. When you see the "Please wait.." screen, if no dialog pops up, manually look through the Zotero windows as one may have opened but failed to appear over your browser. If you are on Windows then this is a known problem if you minimize the Zotero window (instead of switching away from it without using the minimize button).
