Zotero plugin not appearing in word for Mac

Hi,
I just installed Microsoft Word for Mac 16.33 after having installing Zotero. The plugin is not appearing in Word so I went in Zotero->tools->extensions to make sure it was enable (it is) and to Zotero preferences->Word Processors tab->Reinstall Microsoft Word Add-in and then restarted my word processor.
The plugin was not appearing.

I tried re-downloading Zotero and reinstalling it. It did't change anything.

I also did the copy-paste of the Zotero.dotm file in the word startup folder. Since I have the french version of word, this is where I pasted the file : ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Contenu utilisateur/Démarrage/Word

Even after that, the plugin is not appearing.

Do you have any other idea of what I can do to make it work?
Thank you for help!

Did you try the steps in that section?

Does Zotero.dotm show up under "Global Templates and Add-ins"?

If not, is anything listed for the Startup folder in File Locations in Word? You can try setting it manually to the above folder and restarting Word to see if that helps. (That shouldn't be necessary and isn't recommended, but if that folder already existed that's the appropriate location, so there's no real harm in trying with it set manually.)
  • Thank you! Now it is working!
I had to add the Zotero.dotm file manually using the "+" sign under "Global Templates and Add-ins" and it worked :)

  • That shouldn't be necessary, though, and isn't what the instructions recommend, and it may cause problems later. The .dotm should be loaded automatically as long as it's in the active Startup folder. You don't want to add it from a directory that's not the active Startup folder.
  • Ok. I finally found "File Locations" in Word, after searching for a while. I found the active Startup folder and moved the Zotero.dotm file in it. I then had 2 Zotero.dotm files under "Global Templates and Add-ins" and I removed the Zotero.dotm file that I previously added manually. The one remaining might be the one in the active Startup folder.
Do you think it's better now?
    It is still working.
  • Yes, that sounds much better.

What was the location of the Startup folder? (You can x out your username.)
  • Hmmm. I think it was in Mydocuments? I don't know why... Maybe I changed it accidently yesterday while trying to make things work.

    Anyways.. Thanks for your help!
  • No, the point is that, if you changed the location, you should reset it to the default from File Locations so that it uses the file that Zotero adds to the default location. Otherwise Zotero is going to break for you at a later date when a newer .dotm is necessary.
  • Ok. Under "File locations" -> Startup folder, I refreshed it to the default, so there is nothing written under the location column. Is that ok?
  • As long as the plugin still works after you restart Word, yes.
  • I restarted Word and the plugin still works.
    Thanks.
