Still having problems with Oo and Zotero connection

Operating system - Vindows Vista

Firefox version - 3.0.10

Zotero version - 2.0b5

Word processor - OpenOffice - 3.1.0

Zotero word processor plugin version - 2.0a2

I know I've seen people with this problem post multiple times but none of the sollutions people are giving seem to help. My system looks good and to my knowledge everything is set up correctly. ( I could be wrong about that ) I've installed everything with the current updates and it doenst help.

I keep getting the message "An error occurred contacting Zotero..."

I feel like Ive tried everything. I need this to work soon, I am trying to write my PhD thesis. Ive been working at fixing this problem for 3 hours now and cant get anywhere.

Im no computer expert so putting this as simply as possible would. help please!!!

    Dan,
I do see the error "Not initializing integration HTTP server" but I dont know how to fix it. Nothing else is running.

You can run 'netstat' to see if that port is open. If it is, you can use fport (does not work with vista) TCPView to see what program has it open.
  • How do I change it to the correct port?
  • Did you run TCPView?
  • I did but I dont know what to make of it. Like I said before, Im quite a novice
  • In the "local address" column, look for any line ending in ":50001". If you have such a line, look to the "process" of the corresponding row. This is the program that is using the port zotero uses.
  • Firefox is using this port, isnt that correct config. If not how do I change it?
  • Do you have more than one copy of Firefox open? Open in another user account on the system?

Try restarting your computer and trying again (checking the debug output again if it's still not working).

Now In my debug report I get "Not initializing DATA HTTP server"
  • That's irrelevant.
  • What else could it be, should I Copy and past my whole debug report here for you?
  • You didn't provide any relevant details after restarting. What "integration HTTP server" message do you see now in the debug output? What do you see in TCPView with Firefox open? What happens now when you try to use the OO plugin?

I continue to get the same error when attempting to use OO plugin. I no longer get the "Not initializing integration HTTP server" message after debug report (now Im doubting if I ever did, I may have mistaken it for "Not initializing DATA HTTP server") and when Firefox is open the TCPview shows 50001 is begin used by firefox
  • I really appreciate your help. BTW
  • We don't really have any advice other than what's on the troubleshooting page, then.
  • Whats this Im reading in forums about Python? I dont understand?
  • Can someone please help me?!?!?!?
  • None of the trouble shooting methods work. I think theres a bug in the program. Either that or no one really knows whats going on.
  • I got a suggestion from someone else online to Uninstall the latest verison of Zotero and revert back to the earlier version. I did this but realized it wasnt compatible with firefox 3.0, so I reverted back to firefox 2.0. After doing these two things everything worked properly with openoffice. I hope you guys can iron out the problems with the newer version of zotero because it looks really cool. Goodluck to all.
  • Zotero 1.0.10 is compatible with Firefox 3. Use of Firefox 2 is strongly discouraged due to database instability problems.

However, we're aware of no issues with Zotero 2.0 that would result in communication errors, and, if there are any, we can't fix them without further information.

    From the troubleshooting page:
If the integration server was running, please also send in an error report via Report Errors (if available) in the Zotero Actions menu and include the Report ID in your message.
  • I had trouble connecting after upgrading to the new version of Zotero and discovered that it was because I hadn't installed the default citation style that I had been using. Once I added that back in I had no problems. Good luck!
