Zotero v4 vs v5

Just replaced Mendeley with Zotero v4 on XP, I was quite happy about the software when I found out syncing is not supported anymore on this version!!!

Can anyone explain the ratio of such choice on a freeware for research like Zotero?

Why you should quit synchronization of the older versions, that differently from v5, are compatible with older windows versions? Is there a plan to force researchers to migrate to more unstable and unsecure systems, or there are sound technical reasons?

Developers should know how many people escape from win10 or 7 and that not all workplaces allow you to install software and/or plugins...

The opposite direction to enlarge as far as it is possible the sw compatibility and usage should be taken instead.

Thanks
  • Because Zotero 4 used a completely different syncing system, and keeping it around prevented us from making necessary improvements to the current version that the vast majority of people use. Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and is no longer safe to use (which is one reason why support for it has been discontinued by both Chrome and Firefox, the latter being what Zotero is based on).

Just to reiterate, you have this backwards. It's Windows XP that is insecure.
  • Just to echo dstillman, Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and is not safe to use. You should not use it on any computer that is connected to the internet.
