Error Starting Zotero

Every time I open Firefox 3.0.11 (Ubuntu 9.04 32bits) I get the message "There was an error starting Zotero". I tried uninstalling an reinstalling the same version (2.0b5). I also tried the installation of version 1.0.10 and I get the same message. Here is the one that I got when I just started Firefox.

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [mozIStorageService.openDatabase]" nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: anonymous :: line 1032" data: no]

    (Is your data directory on a network drive or a local drive?)
  • Hi,

    I had the same problem. I re-installed the old version of Firefox, and now it works again. I hope it will get fixed soon, then I can update my browser again.

    Btw, great aplication! I only have some minor issues:

    1- I use APA style, and in the bibliography often the DOI code of the article is shown. I can solve this by removing it from the library, but it is a bit annoying.

    2- It would be great if citations could be captured from more websites, like googlebooks, amazon (UK and other versions), and Science Direct.
  • mayadebest: There's nothing to "fix" in Zotero—see the linked thread.

    These sites are all supported. If something's not working (other than ScienceDirect, which is known to be broken), search for recent threads or start a new one and provide example URLs.
  • Dan,
    My data is on a local hard drive.
  • I finally solved the problem. I had my data directory on a custom location at my hard drive. I changed it to the Firefox Profile Directory and that solve the problem. Zotero works just fine now!.
